altThis Sunday (October 23rd) Atlantis Norfolk will be hosting a Warmachine/Hordes charity tournament. The full details can be found here but the basics are that we will be collecting canned food for the local foodbank. All you need is 6 cans of food to play. But you are going to want to bring lots of extra because once the event starts you can break the rules by donating more cans. What other tournament lets you basically cheat and then feel good about because it's for a good cause?

And as an added bonus we will bring our extensive collection of used Warmachine and Hordes models and make them available  for 25% off. But to get that sale price you have to do one thing...donate cans of food. Either by playing in the event or by just showing up and donating 12 cans of food. Or you can just show up and donate food. This is a tournament but the only prize is bragging rights and knowing you are helping your community.

For a complete list of the used models we have right now click "READ MORE" below.

Welcome sibko cadets to your final training exercise, your trial for position within the glorious and ever victorious Clan Jade Falcon.  For The Blooding you will be given your choice of any heavy weight OmniMech with any standard configuration you wish - cadets do not rate the privilege of designing their own alternate configurations.

The choices are:  60 ton Mad Dog (or Vulture as it will become known to the Inner Sphere); 65 ton Hellbringer (Loki); 70 ton Summoner (Thor); or a 75 ton Timber Wolf (Mad Cat).

The trial will be conducted as follows:

alt1) Two warriors will be tested together and each will have three opponents assigned to face them.  The first will be a medium weight OmniMech, the second will be a heavy weight OmniMech, and the third will be an assault class OmniMech.

2) If a cadet eliminates one target he will be assigned to a medium weight OmniMech.  If the cadet eliminates two targets he will be assigned to a heavy weight OmniMech.  If the cadet eliminates three targets he will be assigned an Assault class OmniMech.  Should a cadet eliminate more than three targets he will be given his choice of any OmniMech chassis and also allowed to design their own alternate configuration.  If a cadet does not eliminate a single target, that cadet will be assigned to a Light weight OmniMech.

3) If a cadet is not satisfied with the results of their Trial of Position, and both time and unpaired cadets remain, that cadet may re-test in the same format.  The results of the first trial are discarded and the second trial results will then stand with the exception that the 'Mech assigned after The Blooding will be a second-line unit of the appropriate weight class.

*NOTE: Yes, this will make the campaign non-historical.  I think the play value will be worth it.

4) If a cadet should break the rules of Zellbringen (single combat) or attack an opponent not assigned to them, the trial will become a free-for-all and all opposition 'Mechs will immediately become active.

For reference: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Zellbrigen

5) If it should happen that a cadet MechWarrior is killed in the trial (due to a cockpit critical hit or the 'Mech's head being removed by a single shot) the player may repeat the trial without the penalties of #3 unless they are not satisfied with the results of that second trial and accept that option.

Once the initial slate of players have conducted their Trials of Position the campaign will begin.  If new player(s) wish to join the campaign the other players at the table will conduct The Blooding for the new player(s).

*****

Campaign Play begins on October 16th.  Our normal play schedule will be the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month so the following play sessions will be October 23rd and Novermber 13th.

Games will be conducted at the Portsmouth Atlantis Games & Comics (AC1) beginning at 1PM.  If a player arrives after the battle has begun the field commander can decide to call them in as reinforcements with the opposition force receiving reinforcements at the same time.  If you want to play, since Clan Battle Code requires forces be bid down to the minimum required to achieve the objective before the battle begins and new fighters only brought in if the situation is worse than originally estimated, it would be best to get to the store before the battle begins. ;)

Dreadfleet: Pirate Battles on the Warhammer High Seas PDF Print E-mail

altFor two bleak decades the Undead reavers of Count Noctilus have plagued the oceans of the world. After each raid, the Dreadfleet disappears into its lair as quickly and silently as it appeared, far from the reach of Man. And yet there remains hope. Captain Jaego Roth of the Heldenhammer has vowed to hunt down and destroy Count Noctilus and his Undead captains once and for all. With him sail the most notorious and cunning of the pirate lords of Sartosa, each borne to battle upon a giant warship bristling with cannons, organ guns and bolt throwers. At the stroke of midnight on Geheimnisnacht, most forsaken of nights, the Heldenhammer and her companions sail into the realm of undeath known as the Galleon's Graveyard. One by one, Count Noctilus and his vile allies move in to stop them.

Dreadfleet is a boxed game for two (or more) players that includes everything you need to make war on the turbulent seas of the Warhammer world. At your command are two fleets of ships - the Dreadfleet led by the Vampire Count Noctilus, aboard his gargantuan sea-hulk the Bloody Reaver; and the Grand Alliance commanded by the Pirate Captain Jaego Roth, who recently stole the Heldenhammer - the pride of the Imperial Fleet, and one of the largest galleons to ever sail the high seas.

As your ships engage in furious battle, it's down to you, the fleet captain, to make important split-second decisions. Do you bring all guns to bear on the closest enemy warship, or do you sail into position for a furious broadside? What happens when the warship catches fire, or worse, the powder kegs ignite? Exactly how much punishment can your warship take before it sinks without a trace? Are those Undead seagulls or flying piranha fish? And, when all else fails, do you have the courage to ram your foe, board their ship, and engage them in a duel to the death?

More information on Blood Bowl and the ABBL below.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with Blood Bowl, it’s a miniatures board game designed by Games Workshop. Players (or “coaches”) control teams chosen from any of 24 fantasy races (orcs, elves, goblins, etc.) and attempt to defeat an opposing team in a game similar to American football or rugby. Blood Bowl has been in existence for almost 25 years and there are thriving leagues and high profile tournaments around the world. The game continues to grow because it is easy to learn and relatively inexpensive to play, but also contains considerable tactical depth.

The Atlantis Blood Bowl League is one of the area's longest-running and most active gaming leagues. The ABBL features a weekly newsletter, two "all-star" exhibition games per season, and a three-week playoff series for those teams that qualify. Our members are friendly and inclusive, and we're always looking for new recruits.
