Requesting feedback on forming a new Role-Playing game group to gather on Saturday afternoons at the Virginia Beach store location.

Looking into the possibility of creating a new group of gamers to meet on Saturday's from about noon till 5pm. The primary game would be Dungeons and Dragons but one of the main functions of the group will be to experiment with new products and game systems. An example of some of the games to be played would be Shadowrun, Cyberpunk, Qin, or the True20 system. Special focus would be paid to publishers that support open-source content or those considered "game-store friendly" such as publishers that recently participated in the Free RPG Day - http://www.freerpgday.com/

Mature players would be preferred.

Hey all, hope everyone had a good weekend.

Rolling up new characters sounds fine. Do we want to use the standard series to save time? Otherwise, the following is submitted to aid with character development:

4d6 drop low rolling method (i.e. you roll 4, 2, 5, 4; drop the 2 for a score of 13)

SRD only (No supplements). The SRD can be found here.

All characters are Level 1 (no adjustments, sorry).

Regional Bonus feats are allowed IAW the Player's Guide to Runelords, found here.

I highly encourage everyone to read the Player's Guide above...even though it's for the AP, it'll give you some insight into the world in which we delve...and there are some new twists on old favorites and new stuff.

As for a theme...let your minds run wild...You are in the town of Falcon's Hollow...Perhaps this is home, and you are all young teenagers (think D&D cartoon =)), longing for something besides the dull life of a small town and work in the lumberyards. (For this, BTW, it looks like Nicholas Logue has written his modules concurrently, so these characters will live (hopefully) for a few levels.). Perhaps you've come on one of the many merchant caravans that visit Falcon's Hollow, picking up supplies of valuable Darkwood that grows in abundance in the nearby Darkmoon Vale.

Take the time to create a background to your characters, and choose skills to match...if you are locals, then at least a rank of Knowledge(local) is appropriate (and helpful). Don't feel that you have to stick to stereotypical characters...have fun.

I suggest that we put some trust in place and have the characters prerolled prior to Saturday, so that we can 'roll' (pun intended) into the module right away. I'm starting to put together my bag of tricks, and will be bringing a screen, mat, markers, a few minis, dice (of course), as well as a few other odds and ends, including Paizo toys (i.e. Critical Hit Deck).

FFB

UPDATE: Paizo has released an updated set of character cards for the Iconics...dropping them to Level 1. So, pre-gens are an option...
