Boardgame of the Week: Flamecraft

You are Flamekeepers.

Mastering the art of speaking with dragons, it is up to you to converse and entice Artisan Dragons, the less destructive and smaller version of their fire-breathing cousins, to create fantastic works of art. Each dragon seeks a home and purpose, and it is up to you to help them.

Welcome to Flamecraft!

In Flamecraft, 1-5 players take on the role of Flamekeepers, gathering items, placing dragons and casting enchantments to enhance the shops of the town. Dragons are specialized (bread, meat, iron, crystal, plant and potion) and the Flamekeepers know which shops are the best home for each. Visit a shop to gain items and a favor from one of the dragons there. Gathered items can be used to enchant a shop, gaining reputation and the favors of all the dragons in the shop. If you are fortunate enough to attract fancy dragons then you will have opportunities to secure even more reputation.

The game is both beautiful and simple to play, taking place on a roll out map of the sleepy village. During your turn, you visit a shop, where you choose to either Gather or Enchant.

Gathering has a number of actions to choose from. First, you Gather any goods, coins, or dragons from each Artisan Dragon or Enchantment, the number of which will be indicated on each card. You may then choose to place a dragon in the shop, so long as it's icon matches one of the slots on the shop card, and then gain any rewards from that slot. You may then choose to use an ability of a dragon at the shop, followed by your choice of using a shops ability, if it has one.

Enchanting is a powerful tool as well! You may cast an enchantment on the shop by using a card from the Enchantment row that matches the shops Icon. Pay it's goods cost to tuck it behind the shop and gain the rewards listed on the card! After you can Fire Up ALL Dragons at the shop.

Flamecraft Game in Progress

At the end of your turn, you can expand the town by flipping any new shops you drew during your turn faceup, resetting your hand to the correct number of dragons and goods, and then resetting the available enchantments and dragons.

The game ends when the last artisan dragon or enchantment is drawn. Each player gets one last turn, and then count up their reputation. Whoever has the highest reputation wins!

Overall, the game is very simple to play and set up, engaging, and attractive in it's art and design! We highly suggest picking up a copy at one of our two locations.
